Imad Ibn Ziaten’s biography

Imad Ibn Ziaten, NCO of the 1st Parachute Regiment based in Francazal, was killed on 11 March 2012 by a terrorist named Mohammed Merah in Toulouse. His body now lies in Morocco, according to his dearest wish.
Given the unprecedented nature of this drama, a law was passed on 27 November 2012 creating the mention “Death for the service of the Nation”.
On 11 March 2013, the Minister of Defence, Jean-Yves le Drian, posthumously presented the insignia of “Chevalier de la Légion d’honneur” to Warrant Officer Imad Ibn Ziaten and reminded during the ceremony that attacking the military forces means targeting the French Republic, the heart of the Nation and all those who put their lives on the line to defend our sovereignty.

Outline of Imad Ibn Ziaten’s career in the French armed forces

On 1 March 2004, he was recruited as a volunteer for eight years as a non-commissioned officer pupil at the Ecole Nationale des Sous-Officiers d’Active in Saint-Maixent-l’Ecole.
He was then appointed corporal on June 1, 2004, he completed his initial training and moved into the field of “supply movement”;
On July 1, 2004, he was appointed Field Marshal;
On November 2, 2004, he chose to serve in the 1st regiment of the parachutist train at Cugnaux as air delivery crew chief;
On December 15, 2004, he is patented parachutist within the school of the airport troops in Pau ;
In 2005, he perfected his technical skills in the “air delivery” sector and in the field of airborne troops in Pau;
From January to July 2006, he was appointed for a first mission in Libreville, Gabon with the French Forces in Gabon (FFG) as head of the air delivery group, and received a congratulatory letter from the commander of the projection air force.
From May 05 to September 12, 2007, he went on a short mission to Reunion Island as group leader “Proterre” ;
In 2007, he continued to perfect his skills and became Chief Ejector on the C160.
From 31 May to 26 October 2008, he was sent on mission to the Central African Republic as  delivery team leader by air ;
From June 25 to October 21, 2009, he took part in Operation “Epervier” (Hawk) in Chad, again as delivery team leaderby air ;
He was promoted Staff Sergeant on April 1, 2010;
From 28 March to 19 April 2011, he went on a reinforcement mission to Senegal as part of the”Licorne” operation.
From 28 May to 18 October 2011, he was again sent to Chad/strong> to take part in the operation “Epervier” as a movement, transit and delivery by air NCO.
2011-2012 ; prepares the BSTAT (Superior Army Technician Patent)
Imad actively participated in the life of the regiment, within his squadron but also in the regimental football team where he played attacking midfielder.
During the 2010-2011 season, the team evolved in promotion “Honour” of the corporate championship. During the 2011-2012 season, the team won the championship and reached the division of honor. Imad had played almost every match, including the last on 09 March 2012.
